The ALS Association Connecticut Chapter The Connecticut Chapter of the national ALS Association (ALSA-CT) is dedicated to providing patient and family support, and increasing public awareness regarding ALS (Lou Gehrigs disease). The Chapter offers monthly support group meetings for ALS patients, their family members and caregivers in three locations throughout the state, provides equipment through a revolving loan closet to improve living with ALS, and makes referrals to other agencies and groups offering ALS-related services and support. In addition, ALSA-CT also maintains a Book and Video Loan Library and offers a Caregivers Dining Out Program. University of Connecticut Home and Garden Education Center The Home and Garden Education Center within the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Connecticut serves a statewide audience and annually responds to more than 3,000 requests for horticultural information. Connecticut residents face many challenges in managing the residential landscape. Problems range from pollution of ground and surface waters due to inappropriate lawn and garden management practices, to inappropriate plant selection, and responsible control of invasive plant species. The Home and Garden Education Center also serves as the primary resource for community-based environmental programs offered by the Connecticut Master Gardener program.
